As a group of animal lovers, we take what opportunities we can to protect the welfare of animals beyond our hospital’s walls and to support local non-profit organizations who do the same.
PET SAVER PROGRAM
Hundreds of homeless pets are saved by Bay Area rescue groups each year, every one of them deserving of a long life and a loving home. Central Animal Hospital has built relationships with local shelters like Humane Society Silicon Valley by providing top-notch care to their shelter and foster animals. To support the efforts of these heroic organizations and help make adoption an easy option for people seeking new pets, Central Animal Hospital has created a “Pet Saver” program. When you adopt a pet from a local shelter, bring him or her in for a wellness check within 14 days and we’ll extend a $100 credit towards any services that the veterinarian recommends. Ask your chosen rescue group for a Central Animal Hospital “Pet Saver Card” at the time of adoption, or simply bring proof of recent adoption to your first appointment.
FERAL CAT TNR
“Trap-Neuter-Return” (TNR) has shown to be the most humane way to effectively reduce overpopulation of homeless cats in our community. By fixing and vaccinating feral cats before returning them to their “colonies”, TNR both protects and manages the homeless cat population. When feral cats are brought to Central Animal Hospital by good samaritans, we provide TNR services – including exam, testing, rabies/distemper vaccination, and spay or neuter – at a significantly reduced cost.
SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK: ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE
Since its inception in 1974, Second Harvest Food Bank in San Jose has become one of the largest food banks in the nation, providing nutritious food to more than a quarter of a million people each month. In 2013, the organization donated 52 million pounds of food to residents in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. But humans aren’t the only population Second Harvest serves: hungry families and individuals often have hungry pets! To ensure the benefits of nutritious food are extended to both local residents andanimals, Central Animal Hospital collects donations for Second Harvest Food Bank in an annual food drive. Each December, visitors to the clinic will find receptacles in the lobby for visitors’ gifts of of non-perishable pet supplies and “people food”. Central Animal is proud to support the mission of Second Harvest Food Bank and fight hunger among the four-legged population of the South Bay and Peninsula.
LOST AND FOUND RESOURCES
It’s absolutely heartbreaking to hear about missing pets. While we can’t physically search for lost pets ourselves, we want to do our part to make sure animals are returned to their owners, safe and sound. In an effort to help the owners, we’ve put together a local Rescue Directory, which includes contact information for most of the shelters and no-kill rescue organizations in the South Bay. You can access it here or pick up a printed version in the lobby. Additionally, social media is a powerful tool in locating lost pets.
